Five Color Problems, Fixed at the Source
Colour goes wrong from the light, a heavy filter or too much saturation. The correction finds what should be neutral and rebalances around it.
Lift a murky, underexposed photo back to daylight
Shoot at dusk or into shade and the camera records a dark, muddy frame with a tint over everything. The correction lifts the exposure and clears the tint, so fur, grass and sky read as they did.
Open up crushed shadows and keep skin natural
Deep shadows swallow a face and push skin toward brown or grey. The correction brings back the shadow detail that is still in the file and rebalances skin toward its natural red, green and blue mix.
Warm up the cold blue cast from fog, shade and cloud
Mist, open shade and overcast skies push a photo toward blue-green, which turns skin grey and whites cold. The correction warms the white balance back to neutral without tipping skin into orange.
Strip a heavy filter and bring back true colour
A teal-and-orange preset can bury a building under a mood. Correction is the opposite of grading: it takes the look off, so the yellow walls and green shutters return to the colours they really are.
Tone down oversaturated skies, water and greens
Pushing saturation makes every colour louder, including the cast, so skies go electric teal and trees turn neon. The correction pulls colour back to believable levels and keeps the sky blue and the water clear.
